ATBR : A Thorium Breeder Reactor.
Designed by scientists of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). ATBR can produce 600 MW of electricity for two years ‘with no refueling and practically no control maneuvers’, Run on thorium which India has a plenty, ATBR des not require natural or enriched uranium which the country finding it difficult to import.
RLDA : Railway Land Development Authority.
Parliament approved the setting up of RLDA to commercially utilize the vast vacant railway land (43 lakh hectares) across the country to generate additional income with a view to providing better amenities and improving safety in railways.
CSMCRI : Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute.
With the guidance of CSMCRI, Reliance Industires plans to cultivate 200 acres of land in Kakinda (Andhra Pradesh) to cultivate jatropha, a high quality diesle crop; raising it to 1,00,000 hectares. The company will encourage hundreds of farmers in this arid region giving them necessary know-how. Based at Bhavnagar in Gujarat, CSMCRI is the only institute in the country that has pioneered the growing of jatropha.
